Eleven girls scattered in many places, one milkshake shop, and one confident young girl determined to unite them all – Ricky, a young aspiring writer begins to search for her friends lost through the years of adulthood. On June 16th, twenty years ago, Ricky and her friends swore they would meet again in two decades in their very favourite shop, Pop Tate’s. School and college are often fun-filled days and friends stick together but the “grown up thing” is pretty hard , and even the closest of friends fall apart. Only a couple of them showed up and that is how Ricky’s quest to find them all begins. This is one of the themes of “The Gorgeous Dozen”. She travels across the country and is in for a roller coaster ride as each girl’s story unravels.
“A journey does not always mean taking a trip. Love, hate, mistakes, meditation… these are all journeys. Anything that helps you learn more about yourself and moulds your thinking is a journey. A voyage into your inner being can be as exciting as one that takes you to different cities… “
In a fast paced world that does not care much for relationships, Ricky managed to find the lost strands and tie them back into a beautiful bow. In the process Ricky delves deeper into herself, and gains some perspective on her own life.
Overall I would say this young adult novel is a great read for anyone looking for something light and satisfying at the same time. For a male writer to tell the story entirely from a girl’s perspective is quite a challenge and I believe Vivek has done a good job with that. The language is simple and graceful, and his words flow with ease. However, the cover page and the content of the book are mismatched, and if you decide to judge the book by its cover, then you’d certainly miss out on a nice book.

That’s a very interesting review! I am not much into young adult fiction, but this one seems a good read for when my daughter reaches that age.
