Becoming purple again

I had a purple chair when I was little, with a bright yellow smiley face painted on it

It was the chair I sat on to eat, play or read.

One day grandma stitched me a purple frock, she even added a border of lace

And muma combed back my hair with a pretty purple band

Pairing the frock with matching purple flip flops.

On one birthday I got a ballerina doll, she was perfect with her sparkling purple tutu

She stood near my bedside table, dancing to a melodious tune.

The backyard of the house I spent few summers in had a huge plum tree,

Dropping countless purple plums on the ground that me and sis would relish.

Purple twilights dipped into nights and showed herself in the morning again.

Purple was always there until one day she slowly began to fade away…

Paler and paler until she couldn’t be seen anymore

And a heavy fog of mere gray filled the world-

A monotone lens, a colourless world

A gray that killed purple.

Then one gray morning, a lily struggled to bloom from within its bud

Peeping through my window

Taking a closer look I recognized a vivid shade of purple!

Purple memories rushed through my mind,

The chair, the ballerina, the frock, the plum and so much more,

The laughter and bliss that I had just let slip away.

I took out my paintbrush and gave it a swirl

Taking charge and dousing the canvas of life in purple

And we all know, purple overpowers gray

That’s how I learnt to become purple again.
