Cynthia, the protagonist of this novella struggles to make both ends meet. Her only concern is her little 6-year-old daughter Jeanne. For a single mother to bring up a young child without any support is a real challenge.
That’s when Mathilde comes into the picture- grumpy, old Mathilde. Her meeting with Mathilde started off on a rough note, but was woven into a beautiful story.
Cynthia goes out to find a little food, but finds home and a family instead. Everything seems perfect until a huge boulder shatters everything. Sometimes what looks shattered is actually something more beautiful falling into place. Could it be so?
My Last Foster Mom does not paint a rosy picture of a beautiful heroine having everything set right in her life by a Prince. No, this is a realistic story that talks about a strong and hard-working woman who values family, who would do anything to see them smile, a woman who knows what she needs to do and does it with determination. What can be more beautiful than that?
There are moments of humour, tears and love all blended in very smoothly. The characterization of Mathilde can make the reader fall in love with her instantly. Jeanne, as adorable as she is surprises the reader with her wit and wisdom when her mother needs it the most. The style the writer uses makes the reader feel connected to the characters in a homely way, longing for the book to be longer. This is what I liked best about My Last Foster Mom.
