An old friend visits every once in a while
Over coffee, under a bare sunny sky, or when the world’s asleep
we talk.
we talk life
we talk death
An old friend visits every once in a while
urging me to question every bit of me
quantify what I am
and demand an answer to my being
when am on the fence, wishing there was none
An old friend visits every once in a while
giving me no choice but to take the plunge
shaking my shoulders,
driving me to open my eyes
wake up
from the deep autopilot slumber that sets in
with slipping time
An old friend visits every once in a while
and pulls off the blanket I conveniently hide under
making me wonder
if am doing enough
what the meaning of it all is
the larger picture we frequently talk about
An old friend visits
An old friend called existentialism visits every once in a while
stirring my whole world
reminding me of everything I’ve forgotten
and bringing with it
echoes of meaning

A heartfelt introspective existential realisation. So well you have composed. We should be regularly visited by this friend.

In the dance of life, amidst the ebb and flow,
An old friend emerges, ready to bestow,
Existentialism’s wisdom, profound and deep,
Rekindling your spirit, rousing you from sleep.
With every visit, it challenges your core,
Asking questions that urge you to explore,
Life’s purpose, death’s embrace, the essence of your soul,
In the presence of this friend, you become whole.
It demands you to ponder, to quantify your worth,
To seek answers, to unearth your inner truth,
And when you stand on that uncertain edge,
It pushes you forward, no longer on the ledge.
With resolute persistence, it shakes you awake,
Unveiling the path you must boldly take,
No longer drifting in autopilot’s embrace,
You reclaim your power, your dreams you chase.
Under the sun’s bare rays or the moonlit night,
You engage in conversation, profound and bright,
Together, you contemplate the grand design,
The purpose of existence, the threads that intertwine.
Embrace this old friend, let its echoes resound,
For it holds the key to the meaning you’ve found,
Let it stir your world, ignite the fire within,
To live with purpose, your journey will begin.
In the tapestry of life, this friend takes its place,
A catalyst for growth, a guide in every space,
So let existentialism’s visit inspire,
And set your soul ablaze with passions that aspire.
