It’s in the details

it’s in the details.

the way she combed your hair to the side and put a sparkly butterfly clip to hold it in place,

yet it was always lopsided.

the way you always saved the last piece of chocolate for someone special.

it’s in his booming laughter and the way he twirled his sunglasses.

it is in the way your eyes twinkle each time your phone lights up and you know who it is.

it’s in the way you spend hours working on a shared playlist

that you both listen to while driving home at night.

for sure it’s in the familiar aroma coming from the kitchen, the aroma of your comfort food,

or the way the fairy lights create shadows on the wall while you doze off to dream.

it is in the little notes you leave on steamy bathroom mirrors,

and the toffees you hide under her pillow.

it is also in the lilting breeze gently caressing your cheeks

on a cold winter day.

in the new leaves sprouting in the wee hours of the morning,

wildflowers blooming through the hedges,

that you never want to pull out,

in those footprints perfect in the sand,

and the mighty wave that washes them away.

it’s in the details of handwritten notes,

coffee mug stains on the old desk,

also behind the dull brass photo frame,

that stands on the window,

the window to which rain serenades.

it’s in the shared glances,

silent conversations,

in the whispered secrets under moonlight,

with the night as our confidant,

in the creases of well-worn books,

between the pages that hide countless stories,

in the flickering candlelight,

of a romantic dinner,

where fingertips touch and gazes meet.

it’s also in the tight grip that says you’re not alone during a storm,

it’s in the paws of furry friends,

who’ve rescued you,

and never left your side.

it’s in the way you have a burst of creativity at 3 AM,

and gaze at your masterpiece that’s uniquely you.

it’s in the way you care fiercely in a world that is often unkind,

in the way you choose to be resilient even when everything seems gloomy.

it’s the affirmations you remember each sunrise,

even on the mundane days.

it’s in the fact that you can look in the mirror and smile,

and tell yourself how proud you are of the person you see.

it’s in the aspirations that shine through those eyes,

the roadmap they’ve built over years

that you now see unfolding.

it’s in the starlit nights,

and even the ones that are absolute black,

in the vast expanse that is the celestial embrace.

love is you.

you is love.

love is in the little details,

little details that make a big wide world.

True, Leha. Love lies in those little things you do for each other. Of course, as life goes on, those things are lost but a little effort is always needed and I would love to have a message written for me on the steamy bathroom mirror!!

Oh yes, the details. But sadly, a busy life has taken all those little details away. Today love is, but finds no expression. I loved how you could put down so many details and yet, as I read them slowly, one by one, I sighed because no one has ever bothered to look into the details when it comes to loving me. I’m not complaining…its just an observation and a note to self.
