Over The Rainbow

“Where am I?” she wondered.

It was a totally new place but she got the déjà vu feeling just being there.

The strange sense of familiarity increased as she kept going.

No doubt, it was beautiful. How could it not be? The clouds were fluffy and the rainbow? That rainbow looked like it was tattooed to the sky!

The flowers that she saw were of colours beyond what she had ever seen.

The grass had dew drops splattered on every blade.

“I’ve never been here before, and then what is it that makes me feel like I have?”

The rainbow seemed like it was getting bigger, but she didn’t notice it.

“Hey little birdie, do you know why I’m here?” The sparrow chirped in reply and fluttered away.

What was with that rainbow? It was bigger than ever, or was it getting closer to the ground?

“Wait a minute… Did I just see someone sliding down the rainbow?” she thought and laughed at her own words.

My, oh my! It really was someone.

Who could it be? None other than HIM!!

She let out a gasp as she saw him. “It’s… it’s you… How is this even possible? Are you really here?”

“What do you think?” he said.

“Well… You are here. But this is unbelievable. I’ve missed you so much.”

“I’ve missed you too.” he walked towards her and the rainbow began to slowly ascend.

“Well you’ve got a little something stuck on your hair… Let me get that.” She ruffled his hair, rubbing off some rainbow sparkle!

“Hey hey… You know I don’t like you messing my hair. ”

She giggled, “But I do.”

“So, tell me, how have you been?”

“It’s strange not having you near me anymore and I so much wish I could. You and I were just great together. I remember everything about us.” her face fell as she said this.

“I am here now, aren’t I?” he said gently.

“What do you mean you are here? Is this even real, where am I?”

“Right here, this very moment – That’s where you are.”

“Will you leave again?”

“I never left.”

She was confused. “I never see you around anymore.”

“When there’s love there’s no separation.” He held her hand.

“I do feel your presence often. The way you used to speak to me, the little things you did to show me you love me, the way we used to dance and sing together to our favourite songs, the way you used to demand for my attention and made me feel so special.” , she smiled nostalgically.

“That’s me with you even now and always.”

“Forever?”

“Forever and ever.”

“You still didn’t tell me, is this real or am I imagining?”

“Haven’t you heard? All that you can imagine is real.”

The rainbow descended again. He slowly let go of her hand and walked towards it.

In the distance a ukulele began playing a soft song,

“…And the dream that you dreamed of

Dreams do really come true

Somewhere over the rainbow

That’s where you’ll find me….”

She watched him over the rainbow going up, up and up and whispered, “I love you Pokey.

Forever and ever.”

Anyone who has loved and lost a pet can relate to this post. It brought a feeling of nostalgia as it made me think of my wonderful Labs, Leo and Sterling, who must also be beyond the rainbow. Thank you for this
