I fell in love in the morning

on

One morning I fell in love

With the little bird pecking fiercely at my window

And the lace curtains gently swaying.

I fell in love with the aimless butterfly outside

Hovering over the dahlias.

I fell in love with the coarse walls and the wallflowers growing

The wrought iron gate that creaked each time it opened

And the dry leaves that crumbled in my palms.

I fell in love with the dog ears of my books

With the mindless scribbles on the sides

With half finished paintings and unfinished verses

And with the spilt ink on my wooden desk.

I fell in love with the smell of coffee

And the conversations that followed.

I fell in love with the ticking of the clock at 3 AM

And the nights I did not let pain win.

I fell in love with cloudy days

With the days that are not that great, and the ones that spark a light in me

One morning I fell in love with the mundane

And that morning I realized

That I’ve fallen in love with life.
